ずっと「家」と「安心感」をテーマとしているけど、京都で暮らすうちに絵に変わってきた。絵と同じように自分も変わっていく。けれども、「どこかで見たことがある」という感じを観る人に呼び起こしたい気持ちは変わらない。ここは私の故郷ではないけど、「家」の感覚を与えてくれる。私の好きな人、風景、心がある。「家」はそれらとの結びつきとして存在している。̶Notmy country, but still my homeがふさわしいと思った。
これまでは、画面に「家」がよく現れていた。雪の多い土地で育った私にとって、その形は自然と人とのあいだをやわらかくつなぎ、安心感をもたらしてくれる存在だった。
いま、関心は少しずつ「水辺」へと移りつつある。故郷は海に面しており、水は隔てると同時に人や場所をつなぐものだ。そのあわいにある境界は、私がこれまで注いできた人と自然との関わりにも重なっている。
家も水も、共通して「包まれる感覚」を与えてくれる。なぜか私を庇い、ほんのひとときの安らぎを与えてくれるのだ。（劉 峻如）

京都市立芸術大学で開催された展覧会では、特に印象的な作品があった。劉峻如による、ぽつんと立つ家、無人の船が漂い、霧の中を疾走する車を描いた作品群だ。それぞれが孤立しながらも、その静謐な存在感は世界の清らかさと不純さをすべて包み込み、私の心の奥深くに響いた。この時代、この世界で、私は時に深く考え込む。真に自由で独立した魂はどこにあるのだろうかと。しかし劉が描く光景は、霧のように霞んだ時空を泳ぐ存在たち、そしてそれらの存在がもたらす新たな世界を静かに示唆している。（ヴォイスギャラリー／松尾惠）

I have long explored the themes of “home” and “a sense of comfort,” but living in Kyoto has gradually transformed my paintings. As my work changes, so do I. What remains unchanged is my wish to awaken in viewers a sense of “I’ve seen this somewhere before.” This is not my hometown, yet it gives me the feeling of home. Here I have the people I love, the landscapes I cherish, and the heart that ties them together. “Home” exists as the bond among them. — Not my country, but still my home.
Until now, “home” has often appeared in my paintings. Growing up in a snowy region, its form softened the boundary between nature and human life, bringing me comfort. My focus is now gradually shifting toward the water’s edge. My hometown lies by the sea, and water both separates and connects. That delicate boundary resonates with the relationship between humans and nature, which has long been at the heart of my work.c Both home and water share the sensation of being enveloped. They shelter me, offering a brief yet gentle sense of peace.-Liu Junru

At an exhibition held at Kyoto City University of Arts, there were particularly striking works. These were works by Liu Junru depicting solitary houses standing alone, unmanned boats adrift, and cars speeding through the mist. Though each stood alone, their serene presence seemed to embrace all the purity and impurity of the world, resonating deep within my heart. In this era, in this world, I sometimes find myself lost in thought, wondering where truly free, independent souls can be found. Yet the scenes Liu depicts quietly suggest beings swimming through time and space as hazy as mist, and the new worlds these beings bring forth.-Megumi Matsuo, MATSUO MEGUMI +VOICE GALLERY pfs/w

Liu Junru (b. 1999, Dalian, China) moved to Japan in 2018. She completed her BFA in Western Painting at Kyoto Seika University in 2024 and is currently pursuing an MFA in Oil Painting at Kyoto City University of Arts.

昭和生まれで、多感な時期を昭和で過ごした現代美術二等兵も今年は活動33周年。
記念になりそうな今年は、影響を受けまくった昭和の記憶を下敷きに昭和脳をフル回転させつつ、どこか懐かしい駄美術をしみじみ紡ぎます。
同世代の方も、平成生まれの方も、なんなら令和生まれの坊ちゃん嬢ちゃんも、世代を超えて愛されたい駄美術の展覧会。
